Argyle review

In short

Argyle is a Income & Asset Verification product. MortgageTechReview scores Argyle 4.6 out of 5.0, ranking Argyle #3 of the 35 products tracked in Income & Asset Verification Software, as of August 11, 2026. Scores on MortgageTechReview are weighted across five axes and are never paid for or influenced by a vendor relationship.

The verdict

Argyle connects to a borrower's payroll account, with permission, and returns income and employment data from the source. That replaces querying a database of employer-contributed records. It is an approved report supplier for Fannie Mae's DU validation service and is supported in Freddie Mac's AIM. The decision is arithmetic: permissioned pulls price well below database queries, and heavy verification spend is where that compounds. The limit is coverage: the site pairs a 90 percent workforce reach claim with a 55 percent verification rate. So a waterfall and a manual fallback still have to exist.

Argyle wins 1 of 5 axes against Model Match, on the weight profile published for this category. Full head-to-head →

Where it wins

  • Approved for Fannie Mae DU validation and supported in Freddie Mac AIM
  • Names Encompass, Byte and Empower, plus point of sale links including nCino
  • Pay per use, no subscription; lenders pay for verifications actually ordered
  • Income, employment and asset verification plus document processing under one contract

Where it falls short

  • A 55 percent published verification rate leaves half of attempts needing fallback
  • The 80 percent cost saving figure is a vendor claim without audited benchmark
  • Borrowers must authenticate into payroll accounts, adding drop-off database vendors avoid
  • Privately held and venture backed, so long-term pricing stability is unproven

Why it scores 4.6

4.8

Production impact

25% of score

Instant verification at application removes a step that costs days of processor time per file, and Argyle’s pitch is cycle time and pipeline capacity rather than data novelty. It carries Day 1 Certainty through Fannie Mae DU validation and is supported in Freddie Mac AIM, so a successful pull closes the underwriting question instead of informing it. Where it does not hit, nothing is gained. Production impact tracks the verification rate against your own applicant mix.

4.4

Functionality and depth

20% of score

Direct payroll connections verify income and employment. Direct banking connections verify assets. Document processing catches the files where connectivity fails. Under one contract that is a complete waterfall in principle, and the pieces are the right pieces. What is missing is an employer-contributed database of Argyle’s own. When a payroll provider is unsupported, or a borrower will not authenticate, there is no second source in house and you fall back to manual.

4.5

Integrations and ecosystem

20% of score

Named connections run through Encompass and Byte, with point of sale links including nCino and Consumer Connect. Those reach a large share of the market by loan count, and the point of sale links fire verification where the borrower already is. The GSE connections matter more than any single origination system. Being an approved supplier inside DU validation and AIM turns a data feed into an underwriting decision. Argyle built these rather than inheriting them.

4.0

Adoption and support

10% of score

The consumer-permissioned model puts work on the borrower, and that is the adoption problem. A processor cannot simply run a query. Someone has to get the applicant into their payroll portal, and drop-off at that step caps pipeline coverage in a way database vendors avoid. Public, detailed developer documentation eases the technical side of onboarding considerably. Pay per use with no subscription means a slow start costs you nothing.

4.9

Return on spend

25% of score

This is where Argyle scores highest. Pay per use with no subscription, priced well below database queries, against an incumbent that charges heavily per query. The saving is structural rather than a discount that expires at renewal. Even at the published 55 percent verification rate, moving half a verification book to a cheaper source cuts a real line item. That is why lenders run Argyle first in a waterfall and keep the incumbent for misses.

On price. Nothing is published. The model is pay per verification with no seat license. Marketing leans on an 80 percent potential saving, which is a claim, not a quote. Negotiate on expected hit rate rather than list price. A cheap failed pull still costs something, so ask what the contract says about unsuccessful attempts.
