Coviance review

Formerly LenderClose: most of the market still calls it that.

In short

Covianceformerly LenderClose, and still widely referred to by that name is a Loan Origination product. MortgageTechReview scores Coviance 4.0 out of 5.0, ranking Coviance #8 of the 32 products tracked in Loan Origination Software, as of August 11, 2026. Scores on MortgageTechReview are weighted across five axes and are never paid for or influenced by a vendor relationship.

The verdict

Coviance, LenderClose until a January 2023 rebrand, automates home equity and HELOC lending for credit unions and community banks. Borrower Engage runs the application and borrower communication. Lender Intelligence guides decisioning, and Quick Close runs closing and funding, with AVMs and instant data wired in behind. It is not a first lien LOS; it is a channel accelerator wired to the LOS you already run. That connection decides it, published plainly: ICE Encompass, MeridianLink and Sync1 Systems, plus MISMO 3.4 for the rest.

How Coviance compares to Encompass

Ranked first in LOS

Encompass currently scores highest in LOS, so every other product in the category is compared against it here. That is a ranking on our published rubric rather than a recommendation, and it changes when the scores change. Category Leader

Coviance wins 0 of 5 axes against Encompass, on the weight profile published for this category. Full head-to-head →

Where it wins

  • Named LOS connectors in the open: ICE Encompass, MeridianLink, Sync1 Systems, plus MISMO 3.4
  • Built for home equity and HELOC, not adapted from first lien workflow
  • AVMs and instant data come integrated, removing the appraisal wait that dominates cycle time
  • Named customers include All In Credit Union, Bay First, Central Bank and DuPage

Where it falls short

  • Narrow by design; it does nothing for first mortgage production
  • Every improvement figure on the site is a vendor claim with no published methodology
  • Ownership is undisclosed and the company has rebranded, so contract counterparty strength is unclear
  • Integrations page names only LOS connectors; no credit, title, flood or e-sign vendors

Why it scores 4.0

Scored on the Loan Origination Systems weight profile. The number shows where it sits in this category. It rests on evidence anyone can check, including the vendor's own record. The weights →

4.2

Production impact

25% of score

Home equity is a channel where speed is the whole competitive story, and Coviance targets funding in under a week. The industry norm runs in weeks. The site claims 20 percent better pull-through and 10 percent lower application drop-off. It claims 36 percent higher productivity too. Those are the right metrics for this channel. The mechanism is credible: instant valuation and automated data pulls remove the exact waits that cause abandonment. The figures are the vendor’s own, which caps this below 4.0. The named customer list at least gives a buyer somewhere to check.

3.7

Functionality and depth

20% of score

Inside home equity, coverage runs from borrower application through decisioning to closing and funding. That is the full channel. Outside home equity it does nothing at all. Scored against the loan origination system category, that narrowness is a real limit, even a deliberate one. It does its own job well and still lands mid-pack for that reason.

4

Integrations and ecosystem

25% of score

Publishing named LOS connectors is exactly right for an overlay product. The three named systems cover a large share of the credit union and community bank market. Sync1 Systems signals genuine credit union focus, not a generic banking pitch. MISMO 3.4 import and export means an unlisted system is not excluded. The gap: no credit, title, flood or valuation vendors are named individually, so confirm those in the sales conversation.

4.1

Adoption and support

20% of score

It plugs into the existing LOS instead of replacing it, so change management lands on the home equity team alone. Coviance’s own material stresses that the Sync1 connection needs no development resources. Named references at multiple credit unions give a buyer people to call. Most vendors in this batch offer nothing like that.

3.8

Return on spend

10% of score

The case is plain. Home equity balances are what community lenders most want to grow. Cycle time is what loses those applications. A measurable pull-through lift pays for channel software fast. The offset is another line item on top of the LOS you already pay for. No published pricing exists to size it.

On price. Nothing is published. Ask how pricing is metered: per funded loan and per application read very differently at low pull-through rates. A flat platform subscription reads differently again. Confirm which automated valuation and instant data providers bill separate per-transaction costs. Those sit outside the platform fee at most vendors in this space.

This score rests on evidence anyone can check. It also rests on the vendor's own documentation, pricing, integration pages, and ownership records. We do not claim to run every product ourselves.
