Truework review
Truework is a Income & Asset Verification product from Checkr, Inc.. MortgageTechReview scores Truework 4.0 out of 5.0, ranking Truework #10 of the 35 products tracked in Income & Asset Verification Software, as of August 11, 2026. Scores on MortgageTechReview are weighted across five axes and are never paid for or influenced by a vendor relationship.
Truework sells orchestration rather than a single data source. One order routes across instant records, payroll and bank credentials, tax credentials, document upload and employer outreach. The last method is the underrated one, because someone still has to make the call when instant sources miss. Truework absorbs that inside the same order instead of returning the file to a processor. Checkr bought the business in April 2025, which adds scale and a fair question about mortgage focus. Every headline figure is Truework's own, and only four integration partners are named publicly.

Where it wins
- One order spans instant records, payroll, bank and tax credentials, documents and outreach.
- Named LOS connections to Encompass and Empower; POS connections to Blend and nCino.
- Names lender and credit union clients, Pennymac and CMG Financial among them.
- Owned by Checkr since April 2025, putting a larger verification network behind it.
Where it falls short
- All headline figures, coverage and completion included, are company claims without third-party validation.
- No per-verification pricing is published, only a percentage against an unnamed baseline.
- GSE validation participation is not stated publicly, so confirm relief in diligence.
- Mortgage now sits inside a background-screening business; ask who owns roadmap and support.
Why it scores 4.0
Scored on the Verification & Data weight profile. The number shows where it sits in this category. It rests on evidence anyone can check, including the vendor's own record. The weights →
Production impact
25% of scoreThe effect is fewer stalled files, not faster instant hits. When the easy path misses, the order routes itself to the next method, and the manual employer chase happens inside Truework instead of landing back on a processor’s task list. That is the difference between a clean pipeline and an exception queue. Truework puts completion at 75 percent, a company figure with no outside validation, so test it against your own borrower mix in a pilot.
Functionality and depth
20% of scoreSix methods behind one order covers more of the problem than most competitors: instant records, payroll and bank credentials, tax credentials, document upload and employer outreach. The last two mean there is an answer for the self-employed borrower and for the employer that contributes nothing. The orchestration choosing the route is the real feature, since otherwise a processor decides which vendor to try next by hand. Depth sits in routing, not in owning data.
Integrations and ecosystem
20% of scoreEncompass and Empower on the LOS side, Blend and nCino on the point-of-sale side, with a RESTful API for everything else. Those are the right four and they are a short list against vendors here that publish ten or more, and the site says little about the depth of each connection. GSE validation participation is not stated publicly, which is the bigger gap, because verification without rep and warrant relief is a different product commercially.
Adoption and support
10% of scoreNamed clients across independent mortgage banks and credit unions suggest the platform survives real operations. The direct web app means a small shop starts without an integration project. The Checkr transition is the live question. Acquisitions like this routinely rearrange support structures within a year or two, and mortgage is a minority of Checkr’s business.
Return on spend
25% of scoreThe pitch is straight cost displacement against the incumbent, and implementation cost is negligible, so if the claimed 50 percent reduction holds at your volume the payback is immediate. Working against it, no per-verification price is published, only a percentage against an unnamed baseline, and the completion figures that drive cost per verified borrower are unaudited. Insist on a pilot measured on cost per completed verification, not cost per order.
On price. Quote only. Truework states up to 50 percent lower cost than traditional methods but publishes no rate or tier, and no minimum. Orchestration platforms bill differently by method. So ask for pricing broken out per verification path rather than a blended per-order figure. The blended number moves entirely with your borrower mix.
