Maxwell wins 4 of 5 axes. Same rubric, same weights, no sponsorships.

One sells software, the other sells software and a labour force

Both vendors sell a borrower portal. Only one of them will also run your loans. Maxwell describes itself as covering point of sale through outsourced fulfillment and the secondary market. That breadth is the deciding factor for most buyers, well ahead of screen design.

BeSmartee sells software only. Its mortgage products are Bright POS and Bright Connect for borrower messaging. Beam TPO covers wholesale, and FlashSpread handles commercial financial spreading. There is no fulfillment arm and no loan trading arm behind it.

Sorting Maxwell’s software from Maxwell’s services

Buyers get this wrong, so be precise. Maxwell Point of Sale, Business Intelligence, QuickPricer and the Encompass Automation Suite are software. Maxwell Fulfillment is a service staffed by people. Maxwell states the team is fully onshore with more than 11 years of average experience.

Maxwell Diligence is a third party review firm serving both investors and sellers. Maxwell Capital is the secondary market trading arm, expanded by the LenderSelect Mortgage Group purchase in May 2023. Maxwell also bought Revvin, formerly MortgageHippo, in September 2023. Terms were not disclosed for either deal.

Integration coverage, where BeSmartee names more banking cores

Maxwell names four LOS platforms on its integrations page: Encompass, MeridianLink, Finastra and Byte. Capterra records more than 60 third party integrations overall. Maxwell’s own LOS page names none of them, which is an odd gap in the sales material.

BeSmartee publishes partner pages for MeridianLink, ICE Mortgage Technology, Byte Software and Mortgage Builder. The list continues with Black Knight, Finastra, Jack Henry, Hawthorn River and Baker Hill. Bank and credit union cores show up far more often. Neither vendor names Vesta, LendingPad or Calyx anywhere public.

Neither one prints a price

Maxwell publishes no pricing page. Capterra records that pricing requires contacting the vendor. Maxwell Fulfillment states custom pricing structures built around scope, process and skill requirements. That is a services rate card, not a licence fee.

BeSmartee has no pricing page in its sitemap at all. Ask each vendor for cost per funded loan at your volume, in writing. Ask for the implementation fee, the term, the seat minimum and the renewal uplift cap. Require Maxwell to quote fulfillment separately from the portal.

The evidence a buyer can actually check

Maxwell holds 4.8 out of 5 from six G2 reviews. Its Capterra listing carries zero reviews. BeSmartee Mortgage POS holds 4.8 from two G2 reviews, with no Capterra listing and no TrustRadius reviews. Eight public reviews between them is not an evidence base.

Neither vendor runs a public status page. BeSmartee’s security page cites SOC 2 Type II and a business continuity plan, with no uptime percentage attached. BeSmartee’s case studies for three named lenders are still marked coming soon. Ask both for named references at your loan volume and on your LOS.

The changelog tells you where engineering time is going

BeSmartee runs a public changelog, which is more than most competitors offer. Its four most recent entries, dated 9 July to 7 August 2026, all cover FlashSpread. FlashSpread is the commercial spreading product, not the mortgage portal. Read that as a signal about where investment currently sits.

Maxwell’s public releases point the other way. QuickPricer arrived in April 2025 and the Encompass Automation Suite in March 2026. An Ardley lead generation partnership followed on 14 August 2026. Maxwell claims lenders close loans more than 13 days faster, which is vendor stated and unverified.

Which one to pick

A lender with a thin operations bench, or one riding sharp volume swings, should shortlist Maxwell. Portal, fulfillment, diligence and secondary market access arrive under one commercial relationship. A bank or credit union running Jack Henry, Finastra or Baker Hill should shortlist BeSmartee. Commercial spreading and mortgage then sit with one vendor.

Ask Maxwell for fulfillment priced separately from the portal, per funded loan, at two volume levels. Ask BeSmartee how much Bright POS development shipped in the last two quarters, given the FlashSpread changelog.

This score rests on evidence anyone can check. It also rests on the vendor's own documentation, pricing, integration pages, and ownership records. We do not claim to run every product ourselves. Nobody can. The rubric was published before this review existed. The vendor did not write this, and no vendor can buy a word of it. Every product in this category is weighted the same way.
