Truv wins 3 of 5 axes. Same rubric, same weights, no sponsorships.
One network against a waterfall of them
Truv connects direct to payroll and bank accounts. One network, one connection, one result. Informative Research runs a waterfall across many sources. Its published sources include The Work Number, Experian Verify and Thomas and Company. AccountChek supplies consumer permissioned data inside the same platform. Veri-Tax and EmpInfo handle manual outreach, and Halcyon handles IRS data. Informative Research also sells tri merge credit, trended data and pre close monitoring. Truv sells no credit report at all. Both vendors are selling into the same processing queue.
Ownership tells you a lot here
Informative Research is a Stewart company. Stewart Information Services acquired it in 2021, in a deal reported at 192 million dollars. It then bought AccountChek from FormFree, closing on 1 March 2023. Checkr acquired Truv on 18 August 2026, with terms undisclosed. One vendor now sits inside a listed title insurer. The other sits inside a background screening platform. Informative Research traces its founding to 1946, with the Buckner family buying it in 1973.
Coverage numbers exist on one site only
Truv publishes just over 220 million Americans covered and 96 percent of the labor force. It names 93 payroll providers, 2.3 million employers and 228 PEOs. It also publishes a method note behind those estimates. Informative Research publishes no coverage percentage and no hit rate. It offers dashboards so lenders can track hit rates after the fact. Claims on both sides are vendor stated and unverified. A Truv credit union case study cites 65 percent conversion and 80 percent lower verification cost.
How a waterfall changes cost per funded loan
A waterfall orders sources in sequence until one returns a result. That lifts completion rates and can lift cost per file. A direct payroll connection is cheaper when it hits. It simply fails when the employer is not covered. Truv claims real time verification of more than 50 percent of borrowers. Model both paths against your own fallback and denial mix. Informative Research added a Vesta origination integration and Freddie Mac AIM work during 2025.
Billing models, both quote only
Neither vendor publishes a price. Informative Research says you pay only when a verification completes successfully. It also offers a bundle at a flat rate across services. Truv bills per successful connection and lists three unpriced tiers. It claims verification savings of 30 to 80 percent against older vendors. Ask both for blended cost per funded loan, not cost per transaction. Then ask what happens when a waterfall runs three sources and none returns.
Integrations and the AccountChek rebuild
Truv names Encompass, Blue Sage, Vesta, Byte and Dark Matter Empower. Its point of sale list names nCino, Tidalwave, Lodasoft, LenderLogix, Floify and BeSmartee. Informative Research names Blend, Encompass CRM, Finastra, EmpowerLO and MeridianLink on its credit page. It announced a rebuilt AccountChek on 28 July 2026. Partner and client migration is scheduled to finish by the end of October 2026. Ask where your own integration sits in that migration queue.
FCRA governance runs through the middle
Informative Research labels part of its supply as FCRA governed data. The Work Number, Experian Verify and Thomas and Company sit in that group. Consumer permissioned data through AccountChek sits outside it. Truv publishes a consumer rights request process and describes FCRA compliant handling. AccountChek data is formatted for the Desktop Underwriter validation service. Truv publishes SOC 2 Type II certification and annual penetration testing. Neither site spells out permissible purpose duties in useful detail. Send both a written compliance questionnaire before contracting.
Which one to pick
For a lender that wants one contract covering credit, verifications and fallback, Informative Research fits better. For a lender that wants the cheapest instant hit and an API to build on, Truv fits better. Credit unions with mixed employer bases usually need the waterfall. Ask Truv how Checkr ownership affects mortgage pricing, support and contract assignment. Ask Informative Research for hit rate and unit cost by source, measured on your own volume.
