Two different jobs behind one AI label
Prudent AI reads bank statements and tax returns to produce qualified income for non-QM files. TRUE reads loan documents of every kind and turns them into structured data. Prudent AI describes its own work as classifying docs, flagging missing docs and verifying income at origination. TRUE describes its own work as clean loan files, fewer touches and lower cost per loan. The overlap between them is income calculation. Beyond that point the two products stop resembling each other.
That distinction decides the buying case. Prudent AI suits shops whose borrowers do not fit agency income templates. TRUE suits shops drowning in paper across every channel.
Where each one sits in the loan flow
Prudent AI runs before underwriting. Its products are Upfront Income, Upfront Index and Upfront AUS. Files that cannot qualify get flagged early. The rest should reach an underwriter already decision ready. Upfront AUS tests a file against investor rules rather than agency findings.
TRUE sells the Mortgage Operations Service, built as three modules. Those cover loan setup and data quality, underwriting automation, then processing, closing and post close. Buying TRUE means buying document infrastructure across the whole manufacturing chain. Buying Prudent AI means buying an income answer for one difficult borrower type.
The published numbers, and what sits behind them
TRUE publishes 90 percent or better straight-through processing. It also claims under three minutes from documents to income analysis. A customer quote describes four loans in under 20 minutes against almost an hour before.
Prudent AI publishes 15-minute income approvals and says lenders close 4X more loans. Its indexing page claims 70 percent less prep time and a 10x productivity lift. Accuracy appears there as an adjective, never as a percentage. Newfi told HousingWire in June 2026 that turn times fell from roughly 72 hours to three. No method, test set or sample size backs any of these figures. Treat them all as vendor stated and unverified.
Connectors you can name, and connectors you cannot
Prudent AI names Encompass, BeSmartee, MeridianLink, Vesta, Plaid, ClearCapital and LON. It also names TPO Connect for broker portal delivery. Fannie Mae lists Prudent.AI among the vendors wired into its Income Calculator.
TRUE names no LOS or POS on its solution pages. Those pages refer to the LOS generically. Its logo wall shows Fairway, Arvest, MGIC, Arch MI, NMI, First Continental and Tavant. Those are customers and partners rather than documented connectors. Ask TRUE for a written list of certified integrations.
Ownership, funding and scale
TRUE began in 2017 as SoftWorks AI, founded by Ari Gross and Alison Wasserman. It rebranded in 2022 after a growth investment led by Long Ridge Equity Partners. Steve Butler is CEO. In January 2025 the company reported 66 percent ARR growth over 2023. In March 2026 it said the platform passed 1,000 active users. It also named a new CFO that month.
Prudent AI operates as Vyakya Technologies Private Limited from Chennai. Jayendran GS is co-founder and CEO. No round size or investor list appears on its own site.
What a buyer still cannot see
Neither vendor publishes a price. Neither publishes an error rate by document type. Neither gives a denominator for its speed claims. A G2 search for mortgage underwriting automation surfaces neither company.
Prudent AI does advertise a free trial covering ten loans with no commitment. That is the nearest thing to a commercial term either vendor shows. Ask both for a per-loan rate at your real volume. Ask for the contracted minimum and the rate if volume halves.
Which one to pick
A non-QM or bank statement shop should start with Prudent AI. The income logic and investor rule checks map onto that work directly. A retail or correspondent lender chasing cost per loan across the whole file should start with TRUE. Its modules reach from setup through post close, where touch counts pile up.
Ask Prudent AI to run twelve months of statements from a real declined file. Make it show the full calculation trail. Ask TRUE to define what counts inside the 90 percent straight-through figure. Then ask which document types fall outside it.
